Wakefield Race Report 27th-28th March 2010
The first round of the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship was held this weekend on Sunday the 28th of March 2010 at Wakefield Park Raceway in Goulburn, NSW.
This weekend was the first time Glenn was racing on the new S 1000 RR BMW. The championship round consisted of one qualifier and 3 races.
Glenn transition from the 125cc to the 1000cc bike was a challenging one. There are big difference not only, in weight and size but also the power. Previously Glenn was riding a 125cc bike being only 40 horse power and weighing approximately 75 kilos, compared with the BMW having a huge 175 horse power and weighing 185 kilos.
The Australian Formula Xtreme also controls the tyres which has to be used by the riders in the championship and there is also a limit of 1 set of tyres per race day. This control measure makes racing through out the day alot harder.
Throughout qualifying Glenn was experiencing suspension problems, which was causing loss of traction at the rear wheel, this is due to the bike not being fully set up for racing, as parts are still on their way from overseas.
After qualifying Glenn was positioned 14th on the grid with a best lap time of 1.03.260, this was only 3.192 seconds off pole position.
Although the weekend was a lot about Glenn learning and becoming familiar and comfortable on the BMW, Glenn gained very positive results with 9th place in all three races. Overall in the championship Glenn is now placed 8th with 36 points.
Glenn is looking forward to the next round on the 6th of June at Winton Raceway.
Glenn would also like to thank his personal sponsors Fuglies Eyewear, InsureMyRide, Karisma, Collide-a-scope Motorcycles and his team.
