Eastern Creek Report 2nd-4th July 2010

Eastern Creek Race Report: 2nd-4th July 2010

Round 3 of the Australian Formula Xtreme Championship was held from the 2nd to the 4th of July 2010 at Eastern Creek Raceway.

Friday 2 July - Practice Day

Practice consisted of 5, 20 min sessions.

Glenn used Friday’s practice time wisely, becoming familiar with the fast circuit, learning the race lines and gaining confidence on the bike.

Glenn made small changes to the set up of his bike. He was pleased with the bike and had good base settings for the weekend.

Glenn’s quickest lap time for the day was a 1.37.7.

Saturday 3 July - Australian Formula Xtreme Nationals

Glenn encountered problems during qualifying with the front brakes on the bike after switching brake pads from Friday, however, he still managed to do a 1.37.1.

This put Glenn in 10th position on the grid. Although this time was better than Glenn’s time from Friday, he still has some catching up to do, pole position was set by rider Cru Halliday, with a time of 1.34.5.

First race of the day Glenn got off to an ordinary start, but after making some good passing moves he made his way to 8th position, only 0.4 seconds off 7th.

Glenn dropped his time further to the 1.36 mark and did a best lap of 1.36.0.

Eastern CreekIn the second race, Glenn got off to a blinding start, from 8th position on the grid, he found himself in 4th position in the second corner. After the first lap Glenn then moved into 3rd place.

During the second lap a rider crashed in front of Glenn and another passed him, however, he was still holding 3rd position. Unfortunately, in the next lap Glenn high-sided in turn 7. This crash was in the same corner as the rider who crashed in front of Glenn in the previous lap.

Glenn thinks his crash might have been due to some oil on the circuit from the previous crash, but he also said he was pushing harder, riding faster, wanting to keep his position.

Third and last race for the day, Glenn started 22nd on the grid because of his result in race 2. Feeling very batted and bruised with an injured calf muscle and elbow, Glenn still got off to a great start, by lap 5 he was sitting in 11th place.

In the sixth lap, Glenn was still gaining positions and while he was coming down the straight the bike engine seized in top gear.

Glenn and the Motohansa Team don’t know how it has happened, it was extremely unfortunate, but also very lucky at the same that Glenn was not injured in the process.

Glenn was especially disappointed apart from his crash in the 2nd race, he was riding really well and continuously improving. Glenn hopes that the bike will be up and running before the next round in September at Wakefield Park Raceway.
